NOVEMBER 2015 NEWSLETTER
One of the highlights of November was having Andres and family from America visit the school to donate new clothes, shoes and stationery. They chose to donate to FMA after finding out about the charity online and speaking with our local coordinator, Amy. When 13 of the family visited for a day the school was a little bit more crowded than usual, but it was a really good atmosphere and the children are always excited to meet new people. A couple of days before the family arrived each child had their feet measured so that the family could buy the right size shoes. Needless to say they were very excited when they received their new shoes and clothes!
The family didn’t have any connection with FMA before so it was very kind of them to donate so much. Since then the children have been very pleased with their new clothes and shoes. The children receive a hot meal every day during break-time, but the family brought sweets and juice which got them particularly excited.Every Wednesday we have sports at the nearby football pitch. During November we decided to run a special sports day with competitions such as a sack race, egg and spoon race and tug of war. The sack race turned out to be a highly competitive event!
Unfortunately heavy rain meant the school had to be closed for a few days in November, but the rainy season is coming to an end so we should have no more school closures due to rain in the coming months. As the summer holidays have now started in schools in Santa Marta we’re delighted to have more children join us for the holiday period of December and January.
We’re all very excited for the start of December because La Voz Kids (the Colombian equivalent of the TV program The Voice for kids) is visiting the school. Remember to check the website in January for the December update which will explain all about the visit.
Emma Tierney from England was volunteering with FMA for 4 weeks during November and we would like to thank her for all the hard work she put in during her time with us.
