If you would like a total Spanish immersion experience and a real insight into Colombian culture, we recommend and can arrange a homestay with a local family for you. We recommend that you reserve a homestay at least a month in advance (or more if possible) as availability is very limited for last minute reservations. Please do not cancel your homestay last minute if it can be helped.
In a homestay, you will have a private or shared room, depending on how many volunteers are seeking this option of accommodation at the time. Some homes also offer private bathrooms.
All have shared kitchens and living rooms with the rest of the family. Most offer wifi and if not, a modem connection is available. The price is 30.000 COP (about $8.75 USD) per night if breakfast and a large lunch is included. The price can be negotiated if you would like to prepare your own food. Fundación Mariposas Amarillas does not receive a percentage of the amount paid to stay with a host family. 100% of the proceeds go to the family. FMA does not receive any monetary support or compensation for these arrangements. We help to arrange them because we know many volunteers are looking for the cultural exchange and family atmosphere a homestay can provide.
